FORECON's new Forest Insect Reporting & Mapping (FIRM) is an application that allows the public to report insect sightings and defoliation in a user-friendly, web-based environment.
Users can report information by address, or interactively via a mapping window. The user can enter their address and the application will obtain the latitude and longitude by geocoding the address. If the sighting is not at a known location, the user can zoom in on a map and click the place where the information is needed.
A wizard-based reporting tool collects the type of insect, severity of defoliation, and some basic information.
