FORECON founder, Curt Bauer

In honor and memory of our founder, Curt Bauer, FORECON established the Bauer-FORECON Scholarship Fund in 2004 (our 50th anniversary) to assist forest management undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in the Department of Forest and Natural Resource Management at the College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry (ESF) located in Syracuse, NY.

Mr. Bauer graduated from the College of Forestry (as it was known back then) in 1950, four years before he founded FORECON, and was a member of the ESF board of trustees for more than 30 years, earning him the distinction of being the longest-serving trustee in the SUNY system. His tenure spanned that of all three ESF College presidents. He served as chair of the board of trustees from 1995 to 2000. Curt also served on the ESF College Foundation board and chaired or served on advisory committees for the Faculty of Forestry and Natural Resource Management for many years. He had strong ties to the College, and we continue the tradition of Curt’s service to the school through the maintenance of this scholarship program.

Scholarship recipients must be in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need, and preference is given to candidates with a high probability of becoming a practicing forester or consulting forester. We are very honored to say that the scholarship is self-sustaining at this point and has been able to provide three (3) awards this academic year to students from Frankfort, NY, Baldwinsville, NY and Cicero, NY, with each student receiving an award amount of $3,600.
