Timber Markets Update: Western New York (November 7, 2025)

The friendly forestry staff at FORECON are thankful to share the New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) timber stumpage price trends for Western New York. The following charts illustrate some of the movements we’ve seen in recent timber sale markets. Since our prior semiannual analysis, western NY sawtimber stumpage prices for white ash, mixed oaks, miscellaneous hardwoods, and hemlock have all increased slightly, while prices for sugar maple (hard maple), red maple (soft maple), tulip poplar, and white pine remained unchanged. Red oak and white oak sawtimber stumpage prices declined by about 5%, while cherry prices fell more sharply.

Please bear in mind, the value of your unique stand of timber may differ widely from the multi-county regional averages pictured below. Pricing for your specific property’s sawtimber timber resource is subject to ever-changing, highly localized markets. Also, despite the various semiannual trends outlined here, high quality timber continues to attract strong interest. For local, customized expertise regarding your unique property, we encourage you to work with one of our experienced foresters. When you’re ready to connect with us, simply scroll down, and submit the easy, convenient web form.
